QR code generator
The code points straight at its content, so it never expires and has no scan limit. No account, no watermark.
- Runs in the browser. Nothing typed here is uploaded or stored.
- A static code: it holds the content itself, so it works for as long as that content does.
- SVG for print at any size, PNG up to 2048 px for screens.
Questions
Does the QR code expire?
No. The content is encoded in the pattern itself, so nothing depends on this site or on a subscription. The code works for as long as what it points to does: the web page, the Wi-Fi network, the phone number.
Can the destination be changed later?
Not in a static code, which is also why it is permanent and free. For a link that may need to change, point the code at a page that is under your control and change that page instead.
What size should it be printed at?
At least 2 × 2 cm, and roughly 1 cm of code for every 10 cm of scanning distance: about 3 cm for a hand-held flyer, 10 cm for a poster read from a metre away. Use SVG for print, since it scales without blur.
Do colours and a logo affect scanning?
They can. A logo covers part of the pattern, so error correction is raised automatically, but a small logo is safer. Keep the code clearly darker than its background, since light-on-dark codes fail in many scanners, and test the result with a phone before printing.
Is anything uploaded, and can the code be used commercially?
Nothing is uploaded: the code, the text typed and any logo stay in the browser. The codes are free to use, personal or commercial, with no attribution.
